Does it hurt to get your ears pierced?

Ok here's the deal,I have my ears pierced but the holes in the front are tiny and the holes in the back are basically closed.I got them done when I was a baby but took them out when I got a little older and I never put them back in.I want to put earrings in but I don't think I can do it,people said I could but I would have to break skin but people told me it doesn't hurt.And then I heard I can get them re-pierced with either a gun or a needle.I want to do it but Im terrified of needles,pain and anything that has to do with those categories,when the holes were a little open,I asked people to put my earrings in for me but I would never let them do it.So what Im wondering is should I get them done with a needle or a gun,and whatever you pick please tell me,does it hurt,what should I do to relax and tell me the process of it,how they pierce them and how they do it,thank you:)
